Amos Hart is Roxie Hart's husband who leaves her as soon as he finds out she has been cheating on him. For the rest of the musical Amos disappears, accept when he hears that Roxie is "pregnant" and he tries to see her to take her back. However, at this moment Roxie is regaining her popularity and ignores him. Amos then tried to get someone to notice him as the father of Roxie's baby, however the public is to enamored by Roxie to pay attention to anyone else.
Amos is left alone, causing him to sing "Mr. Cellophane". A song about the fact that he is invisible to everyone. He is a very sad character who is honestly the only genuine person in the entire musical. This number was made to resemble Burt Williams's song "Nobody" and it is obvious that Kander and Ebb weren't holding back on this reference considering the outfit Amos wears for this number closely resembles that of Burt Williams. Below are the lyrics of both "Mr. Cellophane" and "Nobody" comparing the two versus it is obvious that the content of both songs resemble each other. There is also a visual of John C. Reilly playing Amos and singing "Mr. Cellophane" and an audio visual of "Nobody" sung by Burt Williams. In the visual of John C. Reilly playing Amos you can see how the outfit resembles the one Burt Williams is wearing in the photo above.
